Avoiding main highways, take two rides of 10 miles each, two rides of 15 miles each, and two rides of 25 miles each. You must make a report of the rides taken. List dates for the routes traveled, and interesting things seen.
Lay out on a road map a 50-mile trip. Stay away from main highways. Using your map, make this ride in eight hours. OR Participate in an organized bike tour of at least 50 miles. Make this ride in eight hours. Afterward, use the tour’s cue sheet to make a map of the ride.
Just because you cycle on pavement, doesn’t mean that this option is easier than going off-road!
Consider doing your initial rides in a park with a loop and complete this requirement through laps around it.
Rock Creek Park
Big Creek Greenway (Alpharetta)
The concrete trail is approximately 8 miles and meanders along Big Creek parallel to North Point Parkway, from Windward Parkway at Marconi Drive on the north end to Mansell Road on the south end. Ride this down-and-back to get 15 miles.
Panola State Park
Big Creek Greenway (Forsyth)
Doing a round-trip on the Forsyth portion of the Big Creek Greenway leaves a few miles to make-up. Tour the Fowler Park amenities - see the dog park, playground, and tennis courts.
GA 400 Ride (race)
Take a rare moment to ride on GA 400 with your bicycle! The annual GA 400 Ride has a 27 mile race option, or extend it to longer race options for the 50 mile requirement!
Silver Comet Trail
The Silver Comet Trail is a rail trail, 61.5 miles long with trail entrances along all parts of West Georgia. Grades on this trail should be gentle since it required flat land for rail cars.
