IPv6 use of NTP is growing (slowly) Many of the most seasoned server admins don't realize the NTP pool is run by one dude and a bunch of volunteers, non-profits, and universities. There is no "NTP organization" that runs everything from a secret sponsorship or endowment. There's really no benefit at all to being an NTP pool member other than contributing to a worldwide cause. It requires impeccable uptime and giving away a bunch of free bandwidth. I've been hosting a server in the NTP pool for several years - one of the most-trafficed in the US region. The server handles 50,000-350,000 active connections 24/7.
