David's Biography
David has pursued a lifetime of quality education and expertise in technology. His various career pursuits in the past 8 years have focused on web-based content management and Drupal. He holds a Bachelor's degree in business, Master's degree in Management Information Systems and a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology.
Early in his career, he published and managed a Content Management System (CMS) with developers from around the world. His CMS was used as the basis for PHP-Nuke and other related projects with more than 8 million downloads. Since he left managing his own CMS project, he has been heavily involved with the Drupal CMS.
Today, David is one of only 25 permanent members of the Drupal Association's General Assembly, a distinction only granted by an election process of peers. He is also one of 108 people of the over 379,000 users on http://drupal.org/ to be admitted to the Drupal Webmaster team. In his time with Drupal, David has written or contributed to over 75 modules and themes now freely available for download from Drupal's website. He is also a reviewer of Drupal books for Packt Publishing, including Learning Drupal 6, and two other soon to be published books covering Views in Drupal and Social Networking with Drupal.
David's training abilities are enhanced by his research degree in Instructional Technology, an interdisciplinary field that focuses on the systematic design of training and educational environments. More specifically, Instructional Technology focuses on effectively using computers and digital media in education. His Ph.D. dissertation used Drupal 6 as the primary platform for collecting quantitative data.
David has received numerous honors and awards. Some of the honors include recognition of merit for service at the University of Central Florida from the design of training at Hospice of the Comforter, the Honorary Sea Aggie science research award from Texas A&M University at Galveston, and achievement of Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts of America.
For years, David has supported many non-profit organizations including the Oregon State University Open Source Lab, Electronic Frontier Foundation, Gnome, the Peer-Directed Projects Center, UNC Charlotte Drupal Users Group, and the Boy Scouts of America. He is also currently a merit badge counselor for Boy Scout Troop 103 in Concord, NC.
