Top rated frozen chocolate treats

I have tried a lot of ice cream and frozen yogurt and have admittedly become somewhat of an ice cream snob. The following is my top list of companies.

  1. Kawartha Dairies
  2. Häagen-Dazs Reserve
  3. Ashby's Sterling
  4. TCBY (I've had some nasty TCBY from improperly cleaned and managed soft serve machines)
  5. Dove
  6. Cold Stone Creamery
  7. Ben & Jerry's
  8. Blue Bell Creamery
  9. Publix
  10. Baskin-Robbins

Worst I've ever had:

  1. Carvel
  2. PET
  3. Mayfield
  4. Nestle (tasted like styrofoam)

Other:
Dibs
Full Circle
Lowes Foods
Breyers
Blue Bunny
Harris Teeter
Braums
Marble Slab
Dairy Queen

PHP developer interview questions

Even if the interviewer doesn't know the answers to these questions, they could probably get a good idea for a job candidate's comfort with the material from how much they stutter and squirm after each question.

General

  1. What are the current versions of Apache, PHP, and MySQL?
  2. What is a cookie and how is it useful?
  3. If you run into a problem while coding, what steps do you take to find the answer?

  5. /bin
    /boot
    /dev
    /etc

Kernel Alive lock

I'm trying to move back to Linux, so I'm trying Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) for the first time. After I accidentally wiped out my Windows XP install (I had intended to dual boot until I graduated all the way), I got the following and then the system locked up with a blinking cursor in the top left.

Kernel Alive
Kernel direct mapping tables up to 100000000 @ 8000-d000

I bypassed it by hitting F6 for the advanced options line at the installer boot screen, removing the splash option and adding noapic.

Months after I wrote this, I found my motherboard had a BIOS update which cited "Improve compatibility with 2 VGA cards installed". After flashing, I no longer needed the splash to noapic hack.

This entrée is good for people on a diet as well as someone who just wants to eat healthy.

Recover from blinking cursor Windows XP boot problem

I hit the power button on my laptop, saw the Fedora boot screen, then it went blank to load Windows XP with nothing more than a blinking cursor. Naturally, I blamed the linux loader, so I got an old DOS boot disk out and did fdisk /mbr. After rebooting, I got rid of my linux loader (I wasn't booting into Fedora anyway), but it was still just a blinking cursor.
