Autobiography

I am a Ph.D. candidate in instructional technology at the University of Central Florida, in Orlando. I've been scripting PHP since 1999; MySQL is my preferred database. This website highlights some of my portfolio and interests. Contact me to see if I can help solve your problems.

One of my favorite hobbies is authoring PHP scripts. I started by developing an open source content management system called Thatware. The Thatware source was used as the basis for several other content management systems, namely source forks of PHPNuke. Although I have abandoned Thatware development, I still script PHP for http://deekayen.net, Classic Graphics, and contributions to Drupal, an open-source content management system. I passed the de-facto PHP certification exam to become a Zend Certified Engineer in 2006. My other credentials are outlined in my resume.

I grew up near Friendswood, Texas. After I moved from the South Houston area, I earned a bachelor's degree in business at The University of Texas at Tyler. Tyler is where I met my wife, Mariann, who I proposed to on the Great Wall of China and married in 2003. In 2005, I earned a master's degree in management information systems and a Cisco CCNA certification.

In the field of distance education, I created training materials for a local hospice, training delivery software for customers of Advanced Automation, and instructional materials about organizational development. I was formerly the assistant to the Blackboard server administrator at The University of Texas at Tyler. In a course named Instructional System Design, I focused on studying Gagne's Nine Events of Instruction, Dodge's WebQuest, and Hirumi's Eight Events of Student-Centered Learning. The Advanced Automation training website I launched is delivers videos, auto recordings, and various document formats including Microsoft Word and PDF on the Drupal platform. The training materials for hospice were for their human resources office new employee orientation.
